The idea of Statue of Unity is devoted to the spirit of Loh Purush (Iron Man) Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Along with the unification of India, he led many movements for the betterment of the farming community with the same determination.

At the initial stage of the Statue of Unity project, Government of Gujarat introduced a thought to connect the all Indian farmers with their leader Sardar Patel, and it was the origin of Loha Campaign.

Loha Campaign was an exceptional activity. Under this campaign, utilized iron farm tools and the soil samples of farm were collected from 169,078 villages across the country for use in the development of Statue of Unity – a unique and emotive tribute to the Iron Man of India.

Around 135 metric tons of iron was sourced from this campaign, further it was converted into reinforced bars which were used in the project and the soil has been used for the construction of the Wall of Unity.
